Facebook kills Postcards says Skyscanner

Photo from Wikihow.com
I love writing letters and postcards.  Though the last time I did was a year ago, I sent a postcard to a friend in Italy for his birthday.  Sadly, he received it a week later. But as they said, better late than never! Hehehe...I love it as it's something to anticipate, to wait and to finally hold it and keep for a lifetime. The romance postcards bring is something that is priceless, at least for me.

Sadly though, the use of social networking sites, Facebook in particular  has overtaken the use of the traditional postcards specially when travelling abroad. This is according to the recent survey conducted by leading global travel search site, www.Skyscanner.com.ph.

The survey said 81% of the 1,000 Filipino tourists polled said that they would update their Facebook while on holiday. Most of us would just post photos, post it on Facebook and tag our love ones to "digitally" share that very moment. I think, since we live in a very fast world, the need to immediately share the joy of being to places a lot of us have no capacity or means to do, has been an essential part of any Filipino travelers.

Social Media and Blog Protection and Beyond

I am back! Hi poets! Well, it has been a busy month and after a defeat and some losses hehehe, it had slowed me but never dampen my will to continue writing hehe.  (PM me if you want to know more hehe) So here I am again.

Anyway, talking of losses, did you know that a lot of information (about you) are stolen everytime you access social networking sites?  We are not aware that there are a lot of crimes being committed online as much as in the real world. Sad no?

The surging popularity of social media may have ranked the Philippines as the no. 1 social networking market in Asia, but it has also put us no. 1 in terms of risk when it comes to cyber crimes and cyber threats which lurk these social networking sites.

According to Myla Pilao, Core Technology Director of Trend Micro, “Social networking easily enables its users to connect to their peers and colleagues through adding friends or joining groups, which enable them to build a network conveniently. However, the same characteristic of such social media sites is also its weakness, as it makes the user extra vulnerable to viruses, threats and cyber crimes which, in contrast, cause a great deal of inconvenience,”

I know at some point poets, we experienced this inconveniences. Sometimes, we just thought that we've been using our computers and laptops too much that all we need to do is to shut it down or reboot it. Being aware and educated about these types of threats and viruses will help us exponentially in terms of protecting our data online.

According to Trend Micro, the basic classifications of cyber crimes that occur in social networking sites include: like jacking attacks that make users “like” sites or pages without direct consent, rogue app attacks which try to get users to authorize fake apps to get access to your account, spam campaigns that let users post and send out unwanted messages to your friends; and malicious links which lead users to malicious or hacked sites.  Also notable is the growing wave of scam which is becoming a hit for cybercriminals—luring the public into pinning fake posts that lead to survey scams.
